Tottenham Hotspur’s time at Wembley in European competitions this season has been woeful to say the least, with the Lilywhites losing to Bayer Leverkusen and Monaco at England’s national ground and exiting the Champions League at the group stage.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men return to Wembley Stadium this evening for the second-leg of their Round of 32 Europa League clash with Gent, trailing 1-0 from the first-leg last week, and the Argentine boss is hoping for a positive result.
With Spurs having struggled at Wembley this season, fans are concerned at the possibility of their side playing all of their home games across all competitions at the stadium next season as White Hart Lane continues it’s redevelopment.
However, Pochettino is hoping for Spurs to make the stadium their home next season and hopes for a confirmation on the move soon. Speaking at a press conference ahead of the clash with Gent, Pochettino said:
“It’s not confirmed, because the club haven’t confirmed but we hope we will play next season at Wembley. We are very close to finishing our stadium.”
With Spurs’ track-record at Wembley this season being far from great, the North London outfit may struggle to compete domestically next season with the move but, due to the construction work going on at White Hart Lane, there’s little they can do.
