As reported by The Daily Mail, Celtic are interested in signing Republic of Ireland youth international Elvis Azah.
What’s the story?
Brendan Rodgers’ willingness to embrace giving first-team football to teenagers has been a massive highlight for supporters over the last season-and-a-half and it appears the club are chasing the signature of another highly-rated talent.
The Daily Mail report they are looking to complete a deal with 16-year-old Elvis Azah after the winger impressed in a trial match with the Celtic youth team last week, scoring and assisting up against a Partick Thistle side.
However, competition for his signature is fierce with the likes of Chelsea, Southampton and Brighton all expressing an interest in the youngster, according to the paper.
Can the Hoops convince the youngster his future lies in Glasgow?
Who is he?
Having represented the Republic of Ireland at U15 and U16 age groups, the Ghanaian born attacker appears to be on the hunt for a club that can provide him a long-term path towards making it as a professional.
He’s previously had trials at Manchester United and Everton, though neither side could sign him due to the fact he didn’t have Irish citizenship at the time.
That’s since been sorted and, now living in London, he is attracting attention from a host of top sides participating in academy showcases.
Celtic have shown great skill in developing young talent in recent years and Brendan Rodgers has found great success relying on players like Kieran Tierney and Moussa Dembele. Continuing to focus on that will only continue to serve the club well in the coming years, both with Rodgers at the club and beyond.
