According to reports in The Mirror, Everton have joined arch-rivals Liverpool and Sevilla in the race to sign Anderlecht striker Lukasz Teodorczyk this summer.
What’s the word, then?
Well, despite the Belgian outfit only signing the 25-year-old attacker on a permanent deal in March following a successful loan spell from Dynamo Kyiv, they are said to be willing to sell him for £10m having brought him in for €4.5m just over two months ago.
Sevilla were the first club to register their interest in the Poland international but with negotiations stalling, the Premier League duo are ready to make their moves.
How well did he do for Anderlecht?
He did very well.
The striker arrived in Belgium with a decent goalscoring record but 28 goals in 40 appearances in all competitions was enough to convince Anderlecht to turn the deal into a permanent one before the season-long loan deal was complete.
The goals dried up a little after he penned a contract until 2020 with the Belgian First Division A champions, as he netted just two goals in 13 outings during the run-in, but he still reached the 30-goal milestone.
It certainly didn’t tarnish what was a fine campaign, though.
Would he be a good signing for Everton?
With Arouna Kone already announced to be leaving the Toffees and Enner Valencia returning to West Ham United following a season-long loan spell at Goodison Park, Ronald Koeman is in desperate need of bringing in a new striker this summer.
Of course, the future of top goalscorer Romelu Lukaku is also in doubt after he has so far refused to sign the long-term contract he has been offered.
With his goal record last season, his age, his stature and the reported price tag, there is no doubt that Teodorczyk could prove to be a good addition for the Merseyside outfit.
What about the competition from Liverpool?
The Reds have been linked in the past but it remains to be seen whether he is still top of Jurgen Klopp’s wishlist this summer.
If he is, then a move to Anfield could be difficult to turn down but if he wants to play more regularly then it would be a no-brainer to move to the Toffees.
What’s the verdict, then?
Well, Everton need a striker this summer and at £10m, he could prove to be a bargain buy and would provide good competition for Lukaku if the Belgian stays at Goodison Park.
