With Manchester United one of the biggest footballing institutions in world football, it’s somewhat surprising to see they’ve left the American market relatively untapped.

As the MLS continues to grow and United often embarking on pre-season tours across the pond, the fact little talent from the United States ends up at Old Trafford is rather strange.

So, with Visit Britain running a competition to find the biggest Super Fan in the world to bring over to England, which players from over the other side of the Atlantic should follow suit?

With that in mind, here are FIVE MLS star Man United should target this summer.

Sebastian Giovinco

The Italian is widely regarded as one of the best players to have ever played in the MLS, though how long will he be there? Surely, his exploits for Toronto FC haven’t gone unnoticed and he could certainly help provide a touch of class to United’s midfield.

Ronald Matarrita

With Luke Shaw struggling to wholly convince at left-back, the England international is an expensive reserve. Quality players in that position are very difficult to buy, though New York City FC ace Ronald Matarrita is one of the best in the MLS.

Carlos Gruezo

As Michael Carrick’s time at Old Trafford draws to a close, United are in dire need of some more creativity to help compliment world record man Paul Pogba in the engine room.

To that end, they could do a lot worse than moving for FC Dallas ace Carlos Gruezo to help pick a pass.

Laurent Ciman

Everywhere you look in the Premier League, there’ll be a Belgian international knocking about somewhere. Still, one of few Belgians not to be plying his trade in England is Montreal Impact star Laurent Ciman and it’s getting increasingly difficult to see why.

One of the fiercest stoppers in the MLS, the 31-year-old could be a relatively cheap option to round out the squad.

Andre Blake

With Sam Johnstone touted for a potential move to Aston Villa, where he is currently on loan, Philadelphia Union ‘keeper Andre Blake could be an interesting option to bring in as a third-choice stopper.

The Jamaican international has a burgeoning reputation in the MLS.
