Rangers confirmed on Tuesday evening that midfielder Carlos Pena has joined Mexican outfit Cruz Azul on a year-long loan just six months after making the move to Ibrox.
The Mexican international has had a difficult time of it in Glasgow since being signed by Pedro Caixinha, initially failing to get himself match fit for action, then failing to win a regular first team place under either the sacked manager or new boss Graeme Murty.
He made just eight starts in all competitions for the Light Blues and while there were some highlights along the way in the form of five goals, he mostly failed to get to grips with Scottish football.
The club also confirmed that Cruz Azul will be paying his entire weekly wage for the duration of his loan, great news for Murty who will be looking for Rangers to use any resources available during this month’s transfer window.
Fans were delighted by the news, with many hoping he won’t be returning to Glasgow when the loan deal expires.
They took to Twitter to share their thoughts on his departure…
