Crystal Palace fans have hailed Patrick van Aanholt after their 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
Roy Hodgson’s men enjoyed a narrow victory over their bitter rivals at the AMEX Stadium.
Jordan Ayew scored the only goal of the game as the Eagles climbed 12 points clear of the bottom three, and just four points away from the 40-point mark that is often said to guarantee survival.
Van Aanholt enjoyed a stellar game at the weekend, earning the second-highest WhoScored rating for the visitors, of 7.4, as he won four tackles, made six clearances, and two interceptions, while he also completed two key passes.
And fans took to Twitter to respond to his tweet, stating: “We are the red and blue.”
Indeed, a number were quick to laud his display, plaudits that were very much deserved given the display he’d put in throughout the 90 minutes.
A couple of other Palace fans, too, praised his time-wasting at the end of the game, as he repeatedly trotted from flank to flank to take corners and throw-ins as the clock ticked down.
Did he really play for us?! No Palace fan has managed to name all of these obscure Eagles signings….
His move ensured that the Eagles were able to hold on to all three points.
Van Aanholt has played in all of Palace’s last four games, scoring the winning goal against Newcastle United last time out.
Meanwhile, these men should have caught Palace’s eye!
