Relevo recently reported that the Cityzens are looking to sign a defensive midfielder in the January transfer window after seeing talisman Rodri sidelined with a long-term injury. The report also claimed that Pep Guardiola's side could approach Zubimendi with an offer as they are willing to trigger his £50.3m ($65.8m/€60m) release clause.

The Real Sociedad and Spain star was closely linked with a move to Liverpool during the summer transfer window and the Reds were confident about landing the player, however, the 25-year-old later refused to leave the Spanish club at the last moment as the transfer collapsed.

The midfielder has seemed to play down move of a talk. He told reporters, "There are always rumours but until now I've always thought that the best solution for me is staying at Real Sociedad. I've still a lot of things to give to this club, I still want to grow and develop here."
